Early Christmas Gift – Crock Pot

Life

This may sound silly, but I guess I’ve gotten to that point in life where I ask for a crock pot for christmas. My mother gave me one when I visited home to help with the move (since they apparently had 4 crock pots for some reason….and 4 typewriters….all of which are now mine as well) So! Now I’m super excited! I love making stews and things like that so I thought I’d break it in my making a beef stew!!

Now, it’s no surprise that I’m more of a crafter and less of a chef, so I’m always nervous when I start making something! I normally leave the heavy cooking to my boyfriend while I chop veggies or boil water in the corner!

I got this recipe off allrecipes.com with some minor changes based on reviews!

+ 2 pounds beef stew meat (in 1 inch cubes)
+ 1/3 cup all purpose flour
+ 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt (I used garlic salt)
+ 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
+ 2 garlic cloves minced
+ 2 bay leaves
+ 1 teaspoon paprika
+ 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
+ 1/3 cup red wine
+ 1 2/3 cup beef broth
+ 1 onion chopped
+ 3 potatoes diced
+ 4 carrots sliced
+ 1 stalk celery chopped
+ 1/2 teaspoon winter seasoning (from whole foods)

First mix the flour, seasoned salt, and pepper into a gallon bag. Put the beef in and shake it all up to coat it!! I then sautéd the beef in a skillet until browned along with the onion. Put that into the cooker.

Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and wine together and deglaze in a skillet. Pour this over the beef and onions in the cooker.

Add everything else and cook on High for 4-6 hours, or low for 10-12 hours! I cooked mine on high for 6 hours because it got done right at dinner time! Perfect!

It was tasty! I’m actually really proud of how it turned out!! I probably could have added some more pepper, but then again that’s just because I really like pepper.
