Recently my boyfriend decided that he wanted to watch every Studio Ghibli movie (It shocked me because, whoa, he’s only seen 1?!??!), which of course I was behind since I own them all. That got me thinking about my favorite animated movies and how I love to re-watch them often.
So I’m going to share my top 5 animated movies that I absolutely adore and will watch a few times a year. In no particular order….
Garden of Words
This has the most GORGEOUS backgrounds and scenery animation that I have ever witnessed. Oh my goodness!! It’s a wonderful love story as well. I couldn’t truly appreciate the animation until watching it on my TV. (I watched it subbed online the first time) That rain. Those trees. The characters are wonderful as well, easy to love. Ah, it tugs on my heart strings! Also…another thing is that this movie has some lovely songs in it.
The Cat Returns
I enjoy this mainly because of the cats and because she has the chance to live the life I wish I could live. All those cats! It takes a character from another Miyazaki movie called ‘Whisper of the Heart’, which is also a lovely little movie. (I like the music in it!) The Cat Returns is an adorable and funny movie, very lighthearted. The ending song is one of my favorites!
The Girl who Leapt Through Time
This is one of my all time favorite animated movies. Oh my, the story is wonderful. It’s funny, romantic, heart wrenching, and just, ahhhhh!! I love the lead girl so much, I feel like I used to be a lot like her! I don’t want to give too much away, but by the end I basically wanted to cry.
One of the first Miyazaki movie’s I ever watched. Even my dad liked it a lot! It really does have a wonderful story about a girl finding her place and growing up! Certainly an adorable family movie or something to watch if you’ve never seen it before. (I can’t believe he had only seen parts of this movie, seriously, this movie is wonderful, but maybe I’m just biased)
The forest is your friend, take care of nature, and goodness I wish I was raised by awesome wolves. Like all Miyazaki movies there is some romance in this (which is adorable) but more than that, the lead girl is totally awesome! She’s tough and kicks butt all over the place!
As a bonus: Wolf Children
I cried a whole lot during the end of this movie, and I don’t frequently cry about movies. That should say a lot.
