Editorial Calendar

Blogging, Design

As I work on further growing my blog and on staying more organized (so I stop forgetting/mixing up dates) I’ve been working on a little personal design project, which is creating a really kick-butt editorial calendar for myself! I used to just keep to-do lists of blog posts in a little notebook and then I’d post ahead in Blogger by making empty drafts on whatever day I wanted a post to go live. I got to thinking though, that it was kinda messy and sometimes I’d forget about it, or I’d type an idea in my phone notes and note transcribe it, or I’d forget a draft on blogger, and in some cases schedule two posts on the same day! So, I decided it was time to actually make myself an editorial calendar.

I’m a designer at heart. I didn’t want to go out and buy a planner to use for my blog, since I like to use things I create more, and even more than that, I do better using the things I make for myself because I feel a sense of pride for making them! So, here I am!

The editorial calendars I’ve made have helped me GREATLY! I can look at the whole month on a page, I can work on my post schedule, which I’ve decided to change! Posting 7 days a week was getting tiring and probably overwhelming for my readers as well. So, I decided to take out Sundays, since those tend to be a slow day in terms of traffic for me, and do every other Thursday as posts for either Sarah or for Alex! That cuts down work for me, and work for you as well! (Less updates, and probably better content as I’m not rushing posts out all willy nilly!)

So, after creating these editorial calendars and little blog idea post lists. I sat there looking at my screen and thought: “You know what? I bet other people could use these.” The ones I made for myself, I tailored for me, with my blog header, similar design elements, and a similar color scheme for my blog. But, it wouldn’t be too hard to change all that up and make some generic ones for everyone to use! The calendars are blank, so you can fill in the month and the days yourself! There is also a handy dandy little box for goals/notes for the month!

I have the pdfs of both the editorial calendar and the post idea pages up on Google Docs for everyone to download, print, and use for themselves! The link is here!
Please don’t claim these as your own or resell them for profit either in person or online, and don’t remove my little tag at the bottom…it’s not hurting anyone.

I hope they help you as much as they’ve helped me plan my blog out in advance! If you want a custom version for yourself, you can always contact me and I’d be happy to whip something up for you! (for a little price! Us designers need to eat too!)

  • I've been on the hunt for something like this! And possibly find a way to include it in my planner 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

  • Oh wow you're so organised! I just keep adding to posts and click publish when they're done!

  • Editorial calendars rock! I bought a planner and it's helped me so much! The ones you designed are so cute 🙂

Thanks for sharing! I'll definitely use the post idea pages!

  • This is awesome! I bought a cheap planner for blog things, but I haven't been using it as much as I thought I would because it's so small and I have to keep flipping pages. I love that the calendar you created has a section for notes on the same page. It's exactly what I've been searching for. I'm definitely printing these out and sticking them in a binder.

  • No problem! I'm actually working on making my own little daily/monthly planner! I just need to find a good binder now!

  • That's what I did too for a long while, I just figured I should get more organized since I was making calendar's for my boyfriend to use haha!

  • I thought about buying a planner, but I couldn't find one that I like enough! haha! Thank you!

  • Thanks!! 😀 I hope it helps!!

  • Thank you! I hope that it helps! 🙂

  • Yay! I was looking through planners too and couldn't find one that fit everything I wanted! I hope this works for you! 🙂

  • Thank you for making these! I've been looking for an easy way to get back to having a posting schedule and I haven't found a format I've liked yet – the notebook is great but doesn't give an easy snapshot of the month. I agree that I like making and using things for myself better than someone else, but this is the next best thing since I'm not designer!

  • I agree! The notebook didn't work as well as I wanted and I couldn't find a planner design that I really liked (or else they were out of my price range in terms of what I wanted to spend on a planner!) I hope that these are helpful and you enjoy them! 🙂

  • Thank you! If you use them, I hope they are helpful! 🙂

  • No problem! I hope they can be of use to everyone! It felt like a relief to finally get my blog organized in a way that I liked!

I've tried to organized sometimes the problem is.. sometimes I just don't know what to write about

  • I start planning ahead mainly with weekly posts (like Favorite Fridays) and then I tend to put in my little notes box how many style posts I'd like and how many book review posts I'd like that month to help me stay on top of my organization game!

  • This is perfect! I usually write down ideas on a sticky note and then make blank draft posts in Blogger like you, but it would be nice to see it all laid out in a monthly format! Printing this out!!
