Sponsor Spotlight + Giveaway!

This is my first time ever doing a sponsor spotlight! I finally opened up my sidebar to sponsors and so far it’s been a blast! I’m so thankful for my first ever set of two lovely paid sponsors! I’m also really happy about officially offering ad swaps as well for these lovely ladies: Jasmine, Jess & Loran, and The Subtle Hipster!! It’s been lovely having everyone on my sidebar this month!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your blog. How did you come up with your blog’s name?
I’m Charlotte, and I started blogging when I lived in Japan. I found that people wanted to read about my adventures so it all just grew from there! I moved to Germany and kept blogging there too, and now I’m the UK. Blogging is a huge part of my life; I love being able to help people with life-abroad and travel tips, but I also love the community I have in the blogging world. When I check out my friends’ blogs it’s like I’m popping round to have a chat with them.
My blog’s name is almost my name…tweaked a little!

2. What’s your hidden talent?
I can ride London underground trains without holding on to the bars and without falling over.

3. As a child, what did you want to be “when you grew up”?
An actress. When we were on holiday in France once I met a boy who went to a stage school and I just fell in love with stories of his life. I ended up going to weekend stage school for a bit, but gave it all up when I went to uni.

4. Favorite dish for Thanksgiving?
We don’t have Thanksgiving in the UK!
(Jess speaking: I keep forgetting this!! My dang American-ness!)

5. What’s your favorite vacation spot/place you’ve visited?
I’m biased but my town in Japan is the best place in the world. It’s called Ise and it has it all – mountains, sea – and the holiest shrine in Japan! The food culture there is really great too.

6. I know you love comedy, do you have a favorite comedian or a favorite sketch?
I much prefer British comedy over American (I’m sorry!) and there’s this British comedian called Simon Amstel. Here’s him performing on American TV! [Video]  Maybe it’s not to American tastes but this is the kind of humour I really love 😀

7. As a bookworm I have to ask, what are your favorite books?
I love any story with a geisha in it. But also Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. An ex bought the book for me and I struggled through the first section of the book so much that I put it down and didn’t pick it up again for another 5 months! But when I did, woah, it was amazing!

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your company. How did you come up with your company’s name?
I’m Jill and I am the face behind Favoring Brave! For those of you hearing about us for the first time, everything I sell is made out of old books that would otherwise be thrown away by schools, libraries, and individuals. I started my company shortly after I graduated from college when I had the idea to start making spiral journals out of old hardback books. That was all I did for awhile until my jewelry making background inspired me to try a few jewelry pieces out of the book pages and the rest is history! Now there are almost 200 different items I make out of old books, many of which are available in our online store at: www.favoringbrave.etsy.com.
2. What’s your hidden talent?
This is a hard question…I would have to say my hidden talent is bargain shopping (even if people that know me don’t think it’s that hidden!). I love finding a good deal and I will go to great lengths to get it!
3. As a child, what did you want to be “when you grew up”?
What didn’t I want to be?! I remember wanting to be a ballerina, an astronaut, a civil engineer, and actress and a photographer. But I always, always knew it had to be something creative.
4. Favorite dish for Thanksgiving?
That would be my mom’s Toll House Pie. Delish.
5. Out of all the items in your shop, do you have a favorite?
I guess it changes all the time, but right now I am obsessed with the Read Books and Love People bracelet, the Feel Like Traveling pendant necklace, and the Make Believe earrings. And this Ginger Rogers journal. Because who doesn’t love Ginger Rogers?
6.  You have a brick and mortar store as well, which is awesome! (And located in the Tulsa area) What’s the most exciting thing about having a store front?
I love that I am not stuck in a studio by myself all day. My studio is in the back of my shop space and so I get to bring my baby son to work with me (he has his own play room) and interact with all different kinds of people throughout my day. I have met mothers of Pulitzer Prize winners, New York magazine writers, and I even have a Blue Man group member that is a regular whenever he is performing in town. It keeps my days interesting.
7. As a bookworm I have to ask, what are your favorite books?
Too many to list, but I would have to say that I currently love “The Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson, “A Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde, and my all time favorite book is “Gilead” by Marilynne Robinson.
Jill is helping to host a giveaway for a $20 gift card to her Etsy shop!! Isn’t that awesome? You can enter below! I’m also adding in a custom portrait illustration created by me, just to make this giveaway a little bit more amazing! Enter below to win these too cool prizes!

A bookworm since the tender age of whenever I stopped chewing on books and started actually reading them. A cat-mom, graphic designer, and introvert originally from Pittsburgh, but now resides in the humid, hot, state of Texas. Cheers!
