Hello there! It’s Jess, the bookworm, all the way across the Pacific Ocean in South Korea! I’m back for one day only, a special deal, to write about the monthly New Year, New Blog (NYNB) post! I’m a VIP in the program that my lovely blog friend Taylor from A Cup of Tay is helping to host! As a designer, I’m always trying to better my blog/brand and myself as well! So, this program will be a great way to start!
The prompt for January is “How I Named My Blog”!
Let’s begin, shall we? I started thinking about blogging way back in 2011 or so, wondering what I’d blog about and skimming a lot of blogs. It all started during a (crappy) internship I had that basically was just reading blogs, checking their score on google analytics, and sending the writers e-mails about hosting giveaways for the companies clients. We did a lot of nail polish giveaways and such things. I also had to write beauty posts for a blog that our company created for a local hair salon/spa. It was repetitive, grunt type work, but someone had to do it. That internship is what sparked my desire to actually start a blog of my own!
So I sat there at my desk (that’s a lie, I never use my desk for desk things) and pondered what a good blog name would be. I wanted to write about fashion first, but then I didn’t really know how I’d take outfit photos. Then I thought about what made me….well, me! I’m a total bookworm. I’ve been a bookworm since 3rd grade.
I settled on Bookworms in Dresses after thinking that it’d be awesome to blog with my friend, Sarah, who always wears dresses! While I tend to wear pants all the time, I figured the “dresses” part sounded more fashion oriented.
In the beginning I struggled a lot with what to blog about, I didn’t have a niche at all. I mean, I started in 2012, and then didn’t even blog for a whole year. I didn’t really start blogging until part way through 2013, in the summer months! Now, I’d consider this here blog to be a “Lifestyle of a Bookworm” blog!
My blog has certainly gone through it’s share of changes since it’s started! I’ve even toyed with renaming it, but nothing ever seems to flow off my tongue as well as Bookworms in Dresses does now. So, I think I’m sticking with it!
