Cosplay 101 – Hiyori

I started cosplaying in 2008. When I started I didn’t wear wigs, contacts, and my mom generally helped me sew my costumes. Come 2009/2010 though, I started being more self sufficient and wigs started coming into play.

I’m going to start this off with one of my cosplays from 2009, back when I didn’t wear wigs, but I did make this costume by myself. Prop help curtesy of my amazing father! The character I’m cosplaying is Hiyori from Bleach, the super popular anime/manga! (I’m on the left mind you, in the red)

This costume debuted at Colossalcon 2009, which takes place in Ohio. This costume is now permanently retired.

  • Oh wow that's such a cool cosplay outfit! Did it take you a while to get used to the wigs?

  • Wow!! I really love that cosplay! I'm rewatching bleach at the moment with my SO and we just started the Espada arc. 🙂
I think the pictures in front of the graffiti are really cool!

  • That's so cool that your parents got involved as well! Also, the pics with the graffiti make you look so edgy and awesome.

  • Yeah it did! I didn't understand anything about how to style them, where to get them, or how to get them on my head without looking weird!!

  • I loved the Espada arc! 😀

  • I love graffiti, I always take pictures of it haha! I think it makes cool backgrounds for pictures!!
