That time I tried to be a fashion blogger…

When I first started out blogging I was dead set on being a fashion blogger. I loved looking at outfit posts and scribbled outfit ideas in my notebooks. This skirt with this top and these shoes. That dress with those tights and that cardigan. Although, then I realized that, at the time, I didn’t have anyone to take pictures, nor did I have a tripod. I didn’t really think the whole fashion blogger thing through.
Still, I did give it a sort of shot. Although, I figured out through doing outfit posts that it wasn’t really my forte. I enjoy dressing up from time to time, but normally I live my life in free T-shirts I got from university and assorted colored jeans. I will still continue to envy all the fab fashion bloggers out there, but I know that it isn’t what I was meant to do here in the blog sphere.
I found myself so stressed out trying to figure out outfits for posts. I also had to bug Alex to stop what he was doing and take some pictures, or I’d have to wrestle my tripod out of the closet and do it myself. Alex wasn’t really a photographer either. The first time he held a DSLR was when I handed mine to him and told him how to use it. I’m sure it was stressful for him, although he did seem to enjoy it!
I find that I’m a lot better off just talking about books, life, and travel. Those are the areas where I tend to shine anyways! In my lifestyle of a bookworm there isn’t too much fashion! There are far more mugs full of tea, blankets, and cat shaped slippers!
So, if there was anyone out there wondering why I haven’t posted an outfit post in a while. This is the reason: I just decided that it ain’t me. I didn’t feel as much satisfaction in posting an outfit post, there wasn’t much substance to it aside from the pictures, and I might have some issues where I literally hate all pictures of my face…but that’s something for another day. I enjoy book reviews much more and the sort of rambling post that I’m apt to put up in-between!
Godspeed all you fashion bloggers out there. I don’t know how you do it! You always have such shining style, perfect hair, and I swear you never have a bad outfit day! Rock on and maybe drop on by and help me shop sometime?

Hi, Jess – This could have been me writing these first two paragraphs. Literally word by word! But I came to my senses and just focused on talking nerdy about books : )

  • I got started the same way! I tried some super embarrassing outfit posts and finally I figured out that i'm so not the kind of person who can keep that up "Here's another all black, mostly solid color, outfit!". Now i'm just on my blog, posting sporadically, and not about any coherent topic except "I'm thinking about this right now!" Still trying to find out what the heck i'm doing.

  • Yes! Someone just like me!! Talking nerdy about book is totally where it's at! 🙂

  • It'll sort itself out eventually! I like the sporadic posts on your blog! 🙂

  • I always loved your outfit posts because you have such a fun style, but I completely understand! Books and cats and lifestyle posts are what make you happy and that's what you should write about!
