Haunted House Stories

Life, Local Flavor

As Halloween steadily approaches, I figure I'll share some spooky stories. I'll start with one of my favorite clown-related stories (since all this nonsense with clowns has been happening in real life, not in haunted houses) Back in my junior year (I think) of high school, I was drafted for a trip to Ohio to visit a haunted house, well, actually it was five haunted houses all on the same…

Travel Diaries – Anime Austin + Kemah Boardwalk

Cosplay, Life, Local Flavor, Travel Diaries

Sarah came down to visit last week and seeing as I haven't been to any conventions in over a year (The last one was Tekko in Pittsburgh) we decided to locate and attend a local anime convention! Enter: Anime Austin! A debut year convention, aka this was the first year of the convention, which is something I've never experienced before. Normally I've attended established conventions, aside the small one in…

Things I love about Texas

Life, Local Flavor

If you missed the previous post (Things I Miss about Pittsburgh) give that a look see either before or after this one! I thought I'd look back fondly on what I miss about my past home and what I've come to love about Houston in this past year living here. It's looking like I'll be staying here for the long haul, so that's exciting! I do really enjoy it down…

Things I miss about Pittsburgh

Life, Local Flavor

It's been nearly a year since I moved down to Houston with Alex! Time has literally flown by, and even more so that I have a desk job. Having a steady schedule that doesn't vary seems to make the weeks fly by even faster for some reason! It was a lot to get used to and it took a while to really feel at home, but making friends and having…

Travel Diaries – NitWit Ridge

Local Flavor, Travel Diaries

I briefly mentioned NitWit Ridge in my Cambria travel diaries post not to long ago, but I wanted to talk a little bit more about it because I absolutely loved it. Ever since I first laid eyes on the house four or so years ago I knew that I wanted to tour it, if at all possible, and put it on my bucket list. The owner of the house, the…

Exploring Katy

Life, Local Flavor

We've been slowly exploring our new city, which is substantially bigger than the last one, so it's taken quite a while! Recently we decided to check out a nearby park to walk around and enjoy the nearly stifling heat. Dude, do you even know how hot it is here compared to Pittsburgh? I was not as prepared as I thought I was. Anyways, so our local park exploration began with:…

Pittsburgh Bucket List

Life, Local Flavor

Since we are moving soon, Alex and I decided to make up a bucket list of things that we wanted to do in Pittsburgh before moving! Some of these are more personal/sentimental things and others are more touristy things that everyone does when they visit. Either way, they are things we hope to do before we head down south! We've already done two things on the list, but I wanted…

The Bookworm Does: Apple Picking!

Life, Local Flavor

Last week I finally got to go apple picking! It was overcast but the temperature was perfect for a sweater and jeans, so we set off to pick some apples and watch football upon return. Well, I was going to pin apple recipes while football was on the TV, but you get the point. Anyways, we drove a ways out of the city to get to the farm, which was…

Leisurely Nature Stroll

Life, Local Flavor

We recently went for a nice stroll in a local park called Frick Park. I never realized how big it was until we got there! It's HUGE and GREEN! So many trails!!  I think it's a lot of fun to explore local parks! Do you have a favorite local park?? Farmer’s Market Veggies + Crab

Life, Local Flavor

Every Friday close to us there is a little farmer's market! It only has about 3 stalls that get set up, but they have great produce, and one is a kick butt baker with AMAZING bread! Since we had a pound of frozen crab legs in the freezer, we decided to pick up doe veggies to steam as a side dish! Snow crab legs are my favorite!  Here is how…
